Shipton's Big R is a locally owned farm/ranch retail store that has been in business for 75 years and counting! We carry many different product lines at every day low prices.
The person in this position will report directly to the Store Manager and be primarily responsible to assist the Store Manager in the overall operation of the store. Department heads report to this position.
Job Duties
1. Responsible for supporting the efforts of store management through the expectations of driving sales, upholding store standards, customer service, financial responsibility, people development and event execution.
2. Adhere to thehighest standards of professional conduct. Must maintain impartiality and objectivity when dealing withothers. Communicate openly and honestlywith subordinates, peers, and management.
3. Store Standards: Maintains store standards by walking with department manager(s) to evaluate merchandising, cleanliness, signage, and seasonal conversions for each department that reports to this position. Creates task lists that include goals for each department/ department manager. Follows up on work results.
4. Merchandising: Will work with the buying staff in a professional and courteous manner to work toward the shared goal of a strategically merchandised department that will result in increased profitability for which managers and buyers are equally responsible.
5. Driving Sales: Ensuring departments are adequately stocked through transfers, daily RDI review, identifying out of stocks daily by communicating with the buying staff.
6. Customer Service: Promotes customer service through developing people through strategic hiring practices, evaluating performance, coaching and training and accurate scheduling.
7. Performs a variety of duties personally and/or coaches Department Heads/Employees who are responsible to carry out the specific duties. Duties could include preparing merchandise displays, receiving merchandise, etc.
8. Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning monitoring, and appraising job results.
9. Upholds and maintains Human Resource policies and procedures by complying with and consistently applying all company policies and procedures by reading and understanding the Employee Handbook including all updates and all management policies and procedures.
10. Responsible for opening and closing the store when schedules dictate and according to established procedures.
11. Fiscal responsibility to include integrity of cash register balances, safe balances, and deposits.
12. Responsible for supporting the individual Department Managers.
13. Providing fill-in coverage when staffing levels are not adequate.
14. Assist Department Managers and associates with customer complaints/issues.
15. Continually strive to keep current on product knowledge.
16. Maintain professional conduct with co-workers and peers and represent Shipton’s Big R in a positive and professional manner both on and off the job.
Minimum Requirements
1. Preferred 3-5 years retail experience.
2. Preferred 2 years supervisory experience.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
4. Strong inter-personal relationship skills.
5. Strong computer skills with the ability to learn company specific software.

Shop Technician
Full Time
1. Provide excellent customer service by greeting all walk-in customers and assisting them with equipment service needs and/or answering questions regarding new products.
2. Answering all incoming phone calls and assisting phone customers with their needs.
3. Cashier Duties – Perform sales transactions into Point of Sales System by entering sales of parts by SKU number, or work order sales. Process sale to completion including verification of check information for approval, acceptance of cash, processing credit cards, and printing final receipt and invoice.
4. Customer Credit – Processing customer credit where appropriate.
5. Provide reports and information to bookkeepers as needed.
6. Work Orders – Responsible for partnering with Shop Technicians to create customer work orders, maintain open WO files and enter WO information into an excel spreadsheet to record and track all open and closed work orders. Contacts customers in a timely manner when WO is complete managing the process until the customer picks up their equipment.
7. Ordering parts on vendor websites as directed by technicians to complete service on all types of equipment. Responsible for expediting and tracking order to ensure it is shipped and received. Once received, ensure timely delivery to the tech in charge of the particular Work Order job.
8. Merchandising – Ensure parts we regularly carry are ordered and peg hooks/shelves replenished. Ensure merchandise is dusted and faced.
9. Submitting warranty work to the proper vendor.
10. Keep current with product information and knowledge to effectively communicate with the customer about their product.
11. Keeping the area around the cash register neat and clean through daily sweeping and organization.
12. Assembling and preparing products for sale during slow times of day and during slow seasons (winter).
Minimum Requirements
· Must have customer service skills with the ability to communicate in an effective and friendly manner.

Provide outstanding, knowledgeable customer service regarding feed and ranch products.
Safely operate a forklift to organize merchandise in the yard area. and load merchandise into customer vehicles.
Safely unload freight trucks.
Maintain a clean and organized yard area.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers through normal social skills.
Must be able to read, write and interpret basic information.
Must have basic math skills.Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift up to 50 pounds and stand for an extended period of time.
Must be able to work with and around the products we carry including feed, seed, poultry (chickens, ducks, geese and the like) or small animals.
Must have reliable transportation.Computer skills with the ability to search the internet.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a drug and alcohol test.
Must be forklift certified or have the ability to be forklift certified.

Sales Associate - Hardware
Big R West - Full Time
Shipton's Big R is a Farm/Ranch retail company that has been in business 73 years and counting! We are seeking a Hardware Associate for our west end store.
- Customer Service – Must greet every customer that you come in contact with. Responsible for answering customer questions regarding hardware or finding another associate who can answer them. Must be willing and able to carry the customers merchandise to their vehicle.
- Product Knowledge – Continually make an effort to gain hardware product knowledge on a daily basis by accessing product manuals and LMS internet website.
- Salesmanship – Start with customer service as defined above and include upsell and ad-on sales techniques.
- Cleaning – Shared Responsibility for cleanliness of your department including dusting and facing product.
- Merchandising – Responsible for product presentation, stocking, scanner tagging, and signage.
- Signage – Make display signs by following Shipton’s Big R sign program.
- Minimum Requirements
